You often think about your next big house clean, but what about the garden? Your outdoor space should be treated as an extension of your home. If you can declutter it and make it a nice place to be, you have a whole new space to spend time and host al fresco nights, all while enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
Benefits of decluttering your garden
Not only are you able to clear a space to spend more time when you declutter your garden, but it can also:
- Boost your mental health
- Reduce health issues
- Makes it easier to maintain
Tips on how to declutter your garden
Remove debris and rubbish
The first step is to clear out all the debris and old, unwanted items you see lying around, for example, dead sticks, rubbish, old toys, and tools. Grab a bin liner (or hire a skip if it is really bad) and get to work. This also includes the inside of any garages, shed, outhouses, or greenhouses that you may have. This part should be easy, and probably the most fulfilling as you get rid of things that have overstayed their welcome. Grab a broom and sweep any concrete or patio surfaces, and even brush down any walls or fences that have built up dirt on them.
Prune plants and trees
Dust off your gardening tools from the shed and work your way around the garden, de-weeding the grass and flower beds, cutting away the damaged plants, trimming back the trees, etc. Depending on the size of your garden, this may be something you can manage yourself, or you may need to consider a tree cutting service to assist you.
This task will help to open up the space, and instantly make it look more spacious and tidy.
Repair items
Check your garden for any broken items, such as sheds, fences, walls, gates, pots, etc. and either remove them or repair them. Then you can move on to keeping everything in good working order, so check for squeaky gates that need oiling and treat or paint any fences or gates.
Clean everything
Simply cleaning your garden can make a huge difference. You can purchase cleaning products at a local hardware store, or use what you have in your cupboards already. If you have one or can borrow one from your neighbor, a jet wash can work wonders on concrete and patios. Give everything a good hose down and scrub and you’ll see it transform.
Add to the space
Now you have stripped everything back, decluttered it, and cleaned it, why not add some nice plants, hanging baskets, furniture, a BBQ, and decor to your outside space? Be sure to only include items that you will use, and that will dress it nicely, to keep it clean and clear.
Once you have decluttered your garden, it is important to stay on top of it. It is much easier to clean once it has been completely decluttered and transformed, and you can enjoy it all year round.
