Being able to own a home in both the city and the suburbs is a dream for a lot of people, and there are definitely a lot of advantages, but there are a few things you need to be considered. Is it the right choice for you?
1. Stay Plugged In, Unplug
City life is busy – there is a lot going on, and you may have worked there, so you need to maintain a presence. If you have somewhere that you can stay in the city it is going to be easier than staying at a hotel.
When you want to unplug and change the pace of your life to something more relaxing, having a place that you can go to the suburbs provides the perfect getaway. The whole flow of the suburbs is not as high pressure as the city.
Knowing you can leave can make it hard to focus when in one place, but it also gives you something to look forward to.
2. You Have To Maintain Two Properties
One of the main disadvantages of having two different places is the time and cost of maintaining both of them. Unless you are bouncing between the two different places frequently it is probably going to require that you have some help with property maintenance at the place that you useless.
You obviously need to work out what your budget is for paying your mortgage and covering the cost of a management company to keep your property nice because you don’t want it to fall into disrepair. You need to maintain your investment.
3. Change Of Scenery
In the same way that some people want to get away from the city to go and wind down in the relaxing atmosphere of the suburbs, some people want to get away from the suburbs. A change of scenery can definitely help you cope with the boredom of the same thing every day.
It is possible that the constant moving around could have a destabilizing effect on you, where you don’t feel fully settled in either place, and at some point, one place might feel more like home than the other, but keeping that choice there is not going to hurt.
4. Save Money Visiting Each Place
You are obviously investing in each property, and while this may represent a significant amount of money, it is going to make more sense than spending a whole lot of money on hotel rooms, every time you want to switch locations.
There are plantation homes you’ll love in the country, and places you’ll feel are alive and vital in the city, so you are definitely going to find places that you feel are worth buying. You can also use something like to make some money from the property while you aren’t using it.
Before you buy a house in either place you have to know that they are very different in character and that you are going to be getting something unique in your life from the city and the suburbs, but there is definitely a lot to recommend both, and having a home in both.
